I’ve finished!!!! whoop whoop

I have finally managed to finish Emily Alice’s quilt. I’m annoyed with myself for taking so long but I also have a wedding to plan (only 4 weeks to go… eeek). And Emily’s still a baby so it won’t really be much use to her for at least another year!

What do you think? Is it Alice in Wonderlandy enough? Perhaps I should have added some bunny ears…

Hmmm. Right, no rest for the wicked. I am now off to start another quilt that I will be selling on Etsy  in the summer. And if you’re interested in a special commission you know where to find me xxx

Machine quilting here I come

Finally I’ve gotten to the final stage and I’m machine quilting the blanket for Emily.
Most people find this part the exciting bit but I personally find it terrifying….
Wish me luck x

First stage complete!

I’ve finally finished the front of the quilt. I still have a loooooong way to go but for me I find the front the most time consuming and the most challenging.

Warm in Wonderland

Now it’s time to get the back ready and then put the front, wadding and back together and start machine quilting on top. I’m slightly apprehensive about this part because Fran’s quilt wasn’t as neat as I would’ve liked it to be. But hey ho i’m still learning and practice makes perfect – so they say.

Oooo and look at these pretty little pug puppies! They are for sale….. How could you possibly resist????

The Queen of Hearts

A New Year, a new quilt. I am now on my 4th quilt which I am making for a little friend of mine called Emily Alice. With such a wonderful middle name it was easy to choose a theme for this one – Alice in Wonderland of course.

Last year whilst visiting the Foundling Museum’s Threads of Feeling exhibition I found this little cross stitch of the Queen of Hearts which I have now made the central piece of the quilt. I haven’t learned my lesson and i’m hand stitching the quilt but I prefer the look and I also feel that it’s neater when i’m in control unlike when the sewing machine goes mental and starts stitching all over the place.

The Queen of Hearts

Emily – hopefully you’ll get it before your 2nd birthday…. ha!

The ‘Love’ Quilt is finally finished!

I started Fran’s ‘Love’ Quilt back in April and I have struggled to get it finished because life keeps getting in the way. (I got engaged and now i’ve turned into a Bridezilla…) But I finally managed to complete it on Monday and i’m really pleased with the result.

The 'Love' Quilt

This is the first time that i’ve used the machine to sew the whole thing together and i’ve made a few mistakes along the way but hopefully this will give the blanket some character. Who wants it look like it’s been made in a factory anyway????

The back.

I’m adding more pics on Francesca’s Quilt page so click and have a look.

I’m a winner but no chicken dinner….

After my dismal gameshow run I decided to enter as many competitions as possible with a dream of winning countless holidays, cash prizes and SMEG fridges. As with most dreams this has not become a reality and until last week I was a 100% loser. Yes, that was last week. This week however, I am a winner. A. W.I.N.N.E.R.

Ok ok ok. So I haven’t won the trip to Hawaii or the £20,000 or even the £100 Topshop voucher but I have won a JLS cd. AMAZING. Well it would be amazing if I liked JLS, but I don’t so i’ve put it straight on eBay and have managed to get a whopping £2.60 for it. Still a looooong way til I reach that house deposit. I may be a winner but I can’t even afford a chicken dinner. FAIL.

7th July UPDATE: I have just won a copy of Katie Piper’s book Beauty from Bliss. I have no recollection of ever entering this competition and i’m an sulking even more than before. WHERE IS MY SODDING MAURITIAN HOLIDAY????

Love is in the air…woo woo woo woo

As i’ve said in previous posts the quilt that i’m making Fran is meant to have a LOVE theme. I’ve been racking my brains how to do this without it looking too naf and hopefully i’ve succeded. What do you think?

I heart Fran

It’s still early days but it’s starting to take shape. I’ve been watching loads of youtube videos that teach the viewer how to free machine the quilt because I want to quilt it properly. I was too scared to do this to the ones that I made Jasper and Jemima but I now think i’m finally ready to take the plunge…. I find the whole process both terrifying and exciting. I’m scared that i’m going to mess it up and that the patchworks are not good enough but i’m also thrilled because I enjoy making them and it’s my way of telling them how much I love them. Sod it. I’m going to keep making them regardless. After Fran, i’ll be stitching one for baby Emily Alice (yes that’ll be an Alice In Wonderland theme!) and then that’s that, no more freebies.

If you want one let me know and i’m sure that we can come to some sort of agreement!
